Preventive Cardiology ForumPhysicians, nurses, dietitians, caregivers, and other health care professionals with an interest in cardiovascular disease prevention are invited to attend the 35th annual Preventive Cardiology Forum on Feb. 15.

The event will be held virtually from 8 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. The Preventive Cardiology Forum is a collaboration between McGovern Medical School and the American Heart Association. Registration for the event is available by clicking here.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in the world. Health care providers continuously find themselves working tirelessly to ameliorate the effects of advanced heart disease in the inpatient setting, often after many years to decades of subclinical progression. The forum is intended to help shift focus and to educate providers and patients on both beneficial lifestyle modifications as well as medical therapies that may help mitigate the development of cardiovascular disease.

The goal of the 35th Preventive Cardiology Forum is to enhance competencies in Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and provide all participants with the core skills necessary to:

  • Recognize the interplay of genetic factors and correctable risk factors in the progression of atherosclerotic disease.
  • Identify three evidence-based dietary patterns recommended for cardiovascular health.
  • Apply evidence-based guidelines to the care of the patient with obesity and associated co-morbidities.
  • Discuss the effect of vaccination in the prevention of cardiovascular events.
  • Review guideline recommendations for the use of LDL-lowering therapies.
  • How to use coronary calcification to assist in making decisions.

Presenters for the event include Rizwan Khan, MD; Calli Bertschy, DO; Sarah Wagner, MPH, RD, LD, CDCES; Anjori Dunbar, MD; Israa Ali, MD; and Mohammed Saleh, MD.
