Huffington Lecture scheduled for Feb. 14

The Joan and Stanford Alexander Division of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine, in the Department of Internal Medicine presents the Phyllis Gough Huffington Lecture Series, from 8 a.m. until 9 a.m., Feb. 14 via Zoom.

Keynote speaker for the lecture series is Jessica H. Voit, MD, assistant professor and medical director of the Geriatric Care Center at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Voit will present on “Medicine in this Day and Age: Addressing Ageism in Healthcare.”

Voit is the founder and director of Comets HELP, a program that aims to improve the care of hospitalized older patients while also providing a robust educational opportunity for pre-medical students. She has also led a spin-off program, Comets HELP Seniors at Home, in which she has student volunteers engage geriatric clinic patients who are at risk for loneliness, depression, boredom, and social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic. She is passionate about improving the quality of care for older adults and reducing the rates of delirium.

Voit is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the American College of Physicians, and the American Geriatrics Society. She received the 2018 Token of Appreciation from Medical Student Award from the University of Michigan and has delivered numerous invited lectures and published several academic articles.
