Hot Topics in Aging set for March 25

The UTHealth Houston Institute on Aging hosts the 9th Annual Hot Topics in Aging Conference, March 25, in the Gallery at the Deluxe Theater (3303 Lyons Avenue, Houston, Texas, 77020).
The UTHealth Houston Institute on Aging, in collaboration with the City of Houston Community Center and The Deluxe Theater, is bringing an expert panel of speakers in a distinctive and unparalleled opportunity to prepare for CMS hospital regulatory changes, drive innovation in Age-Friendly care, and enhance quality of care for older adults in hospital systems.
The Institute on Aging’s Conference provides an in-depth exploration of the new Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services inpatient quality measure and its implications for hospital leaders striving to deliver age-friendly care. Designed for leaders, physicians, nurses, quality officers and decision-makers in health care, the session will highlight how aligning hospital operations with evidence-based, age-friendly principles can improve patient outcomes, enhance satisfaction, and ensure compliance with evolving CMS standards.
The daylong conference runs from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and features 10 presentations and two speaker panels throughout the day. Speakers include Cristina Murdock, MD; Abdulaziz Alsharawy, PhD; Yen-Chi Le, PhD; Timothy Farrell, MD; Aanand Naik, MD; Nimit Agarwal, MD, MBA; Holly Holmes, MD; Lauren Standiford, RN, MSN, CNL, TCRN; Min Ji Kwak, MD; Shannon Stephens, MSN, RN, CEN; Charles L. Maddow, MD, FACEP; and Kathryn Agarwal, MD.
Keynote speaker for the event will be Rani Snyder, MPA, vice-president of the John A. Hartford Foundation, presenting on “CMS 2025 Inpatient Age-Friendly Quality Measure.” Snyder has over 25 years of experience working with preeminent health care institutions across the nation improving the care of older adults, identifying and guiding health care programs that have set the standard for medical best practices, increased medical education opportunities, and maximizing resources to improve health care broadly.
At the John A. Hartford Foundation, she coordinates initiatives that foster collaboration among academic institutions, health systems, and community-based organizations to build age-friendly health systems, support family caregivers, and improve serious illness and end-of-life-care. Additionally, she serves as a board member for the American Society on Aging and has been appointed by the US Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra to serve on the National Advisory Committee on Rural HHS.
