Psychiatry hosts Eating Disorders Update May 3
The Louis A. Faillace, MD, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, will host the UTHealth Houston Center for Eating Disorders Update Conference: Bridging the Gap, May 3 at TMC3 Helix Park (1885 Old Spanish Trail).
The conference will showcase presentations by some of the world’s foremost experts and leaders in the field of eating disorders. With an emphasis on research-supported treatment and clinical application, this conference will have joint keynote addresses and two distinct tracks: medical and therapy.
Three joint sessions will cover the following: (1) set point theory, utilizing growth charts in assessment and treatment, and understanding the realities of health at every size, (2) family-based treatment (FBT): the gold-standard treatment for adolescents with eating disorders, and (3) how technology can be used to improve patient outcomes.
The medical track will emphasize the medical assessment and treatment of eating disorders across the outpatient and inpatient levels of care. The therapy track will adherently focus on additional evidence-based treatments for eating disorders, including Enhanced Cognitive Behavior Therapy for adults, and Exposure Therapy for eating disorders.
The conference is a call to action for colleagues across multiple disciplines of medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, nutrition, and beyond. For additional information or a complete agenda including a list of speakers, click here.
