No Conflicts

Charles Cox, MD; Christine (Flynn) Weaver, PhD; Vyju Ram, MD; and Meredith Mills, JD; present a plenary session titled “Navigating Conflict of Interest through the lifecycle of innovation,” at the annual AAMC Forum on Conflict of Interest. The presentation explored conflict of interest examples through the lifecycle of a technology developed in an academic setting using Dr. Cox’s fluid warming device and cell processing device as examples. From early-stage discovery to licensing and commercialization, the discussion addressed both institutional and personal COIs—such as equity ownership, inventor royalties, consulting agreements, and the importance of transparency in decision-making. The session effectively brought together the various elements of COI work, offering a meaningful reminder of the purpose and impact behind what we do and was very well received by the audience.
