Torres named NBA Outstanding Student

The Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy has named Jose Torres, MS4, as the winner of the Outstanding Student in Neuroscience 2025 Award.

Torres is the top scholar in the neuroscience course and said he is thrilled to have matched in neurosurgery at the University of Maryland. He is particularly interested in neurosurgical oncology and complex spine surgery for their potential to transform lives through intricate, impactful procedures.

“I’m so grateful for the mentors who’ve guided me with wisdom and belief, shaping me into the surgeon I’m becoming,” Torres said. “I’m excited to bring my curiosity, grit, and their inspiration into my future training.”
