This July, UTHealth Houston joined Memorial Hermann-TMC, one of our primary teaching hospitals, in celebrating 100 years of excellence in patient care since they opened their doors to treat the first patients in the Texas Medical Center on July 13, 1925.

Before McGovern Medical School was even officially approved, UTHealth Houston began building what would become a decades-long partnership with Memorial Hermann — advancing patient care, medical education, research, and community health together.

On July 9, Houston Mayor John Whitmire honored Memorial Hermann’s centennial celebration with a proclamation presented at Houston City Hall. In attendance, representing the academic-clinical partnership, were Bela Patel, MD, Michelle McNutt, MD and Shelby Pulverenti, MHA.

“For a century, Memorial Hermann has been a cornerstone of health care in the City of Houston, the Texas Medical Center, and UTHealth Houston. As we celebrate 100 years of exceptional care, I’m proud of the enduring partnership we’ve built — one that continues to shape the future of medicine through education, research, and compassionate care. Together, we remain steadfast in our commitment to serve this community for generations to come.”Bela Patel, MD

Here’s to Memorial Hermann’s next 100 years of care, innovation, and community health!
