The American Medical Association Board of Trustees has selected third-year McGovern Medical School student Sanjay Neerukonda, as the medical student representative of the National Board of Medical Examiners Advisory Committee.

“Serving as the medical student member on the NBME Advisory Committee for Medical School Programs is a tremendous honor,” Neerukonda said. “It represents a rare opportunity to give voice to the experiences, challenges, and aspirations of medical students of all abilities nationwide, helping to shape the very systems that assess and guide our medical education.”

The NBME Advisory Committee, consisting of academic and medical associations and medical student organizations, is charged with improving communication and enhancing relationships between the medical education community and the NBME in areas of mutual interest. As a member of the advisory committee, Neerukonda will discuss topics pertaining to the licensing issues that affect medical students and assess issues regarding medical school and student services.

In his position, Neerukonda will be tasked with representing the American Medical Association Medical Student Section on the committee and will keep students informed of impending changes within United States Medical Licensing Examination and other NBME assessment programs.

“Being part of this committee means engaging with leaders in academic medicine to promote fairness, equity, and excellence in evaluation and support of future physicians,” Neerukonda said. “Student perspectives are vital to the continued evolution of medical education, and I am both humbled and energized to contribute meaningfully to this mission.”
