Ophthalmology to host Low Vision Education Day



A stock image of an eye The Ruiz Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science will host Low Vision Education Day, Friday, Sept. 12 in the UTHealth Houston Dan Arnold Center for Vision Rehabilitation in the TMC Innovation Center (2450 Holcombe Blvd.).

The half-day event creates a forum for educating the public, patients, and caregivers about various low vision conditions, treatments offered, and new research that is being done in the field of low vision. Invited speakers include leading physicians in eye care, researchers, motivational speakers, and a technology showcase.

2025 speakers include Ahmad Kheirkah, MD; Sam Dahr, MD, MS; Rahul Pandit, MD; Cynthia Gundy, MA; Grace Chang, OTR; Diana Arnold, OTR; and Erin Galicki, OTR, CDRS. A full agenda and information about each speaker can be found on the event’s website.

Registration is open for the 2025 Low Vision Education Day. The event is offered free of charge, but space is limited. Parking is in Lot 2450, which can be accessed through Entrance 81 on Holcombe Blvd. Parking will be validated.

The Dan Arnold Center for Vision Rehabilitation offers one of the most comprehensive visual rehabilitation programs in the country thanks to state-of-the-art technology, expert staff, and wonderful learning facilities, including adaptive training, a driving simulator, and a full kitchen. The center offers low vision exams and home assessments and provides vision rehabilitation for all ocular and neurological diagnoses for all age groups.
