The McGovern Medical Department of Pediatrics is launching a new division, the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. National data from the CDC indicate that approximately 1 in 6 children in the U.S. has a developmental disability, underscoring the urgent need for specialized, interdisciplinary care. This dedicated division will train physicians who provide comprehensive care for children with neurodevelopmental conditions like autism, Down syndrome, ADHD, and intellectual disabilities.
The division will be led by Gabriel Anzueto, MD, medical director of the Dan L Duncan Children’s Neurodevelopmental Clinic.
“We recognize that the challenges faced by children and their families with developmental differences are not always linked to a simple medical diagnosis,” Anzueto said. “These are complex neurodevelopmental issues that require a comprehensive look at every child.”
