The Resilience Initiative for Support and Empowerment (RISE) at UTHealth Houston, in partnership with the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, hosted “Arts beyond Sight,” on Oct. 10.
Over 25 attendees enjoyed a curated event designed to create an immersive experience for the visually impaired to appreciate art pieces through tactile and auditory descriptions.
Each month, the Dan Arnold Center for Vision Rehabilitation in the Ruiz Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences conducts a free support group for visually impaired individuals. The group is directed by Bhavani Iyer, DO, FAAO, Dipl AAO, and run by her team of occupational therapists, Grace Chang, OTD; and Diana Arnold, OTR; and medical student volunteers.
This event is the first of a series of events planned under the Arts Beyond Vision initiative by the low vision center.
