Research effectiveness workshop set for Nov. 13

The McGovern Medical School Research Committee and the Institute for Clinical Research and Learning Health Care will host the Modernizing Comparative Effectiveness Research Interdisciplinary Workshop and Symposium on Nov. 13.

The workshop and symposium will be held from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Memorial Hermann Conference Center inside Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital. Registration for the event is free.

The hands-on workshop will give attendees the tools to understand what comparative effectiveness research is, why it matters, and how to design research that fits into clinical workflows. Additionally, participants will explore how to turn everyday questions into impactful studies and be connected with funding opportunities and support teams at UTHealth Houston.

The keynote speaker for the event is Adrian Hernandez, MD, MHS, executive director of the Duke Clinical Research Institute. At Duke, Hernandez provides visionary and strategic direction to the institute by supporting and strengthening its research and teaching agendas to continue to raise its national and international profile.

A cardiologist and an internationally recognized leader in clinical research, Hernandez has served as the steering committee chair or principal investigator on multiple large studies with goals to improve the health of patients with cardiovascular disease or diabetes. He has published more than 800 articles and is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians.
