McGovern Mini Market food pantry now available for students
As part of UTHealth Houston’s commitment to supporting student health and well-being, McGovern Medical School has opened the McGovern Mini Market to address food insecurity, ensure access to nutritious food and essential items, and allow students to focus on their education.
The market is a student food pantry that offers a variety of nonperishable food items and hygiene products at no cost to medical students.
It is open to all McGovern undergraduate medical students who may benefit from additional food resources, whether on an occasional or ongoing basis. Students interested in accessing the pantry should complete a brief eligibility questionnaire. Once approved, participants will receive information on how to shop and the pantry’s hours of operation.
The Mini Market was established after the Organization of Student Representatives and the McGovern Student Senate identified food insecurity as a growing concern among medical students and proposed the creation of an on-campus pantry. Their advocacy led to the launch of the student-run initiative, designed to ensure that all McGovern students have access to essential items.
