Nominations open for Neuroscience Research Awards
The UTHealth Houston Neuroscience Research Center is accepting nominations for a pair of awards through Feb. 20.
Outstanding Fourth-Year Medical Student in the Neurosciences
The Outstanding Fourth-Year Medical Student in the Neurosciences Award grants $500 for excellence in neuroscience research conducted while in medical school. Nominees can either be in the MD or MD/PhD program and mush show evidence of pursuing a career in neurology, neurosurgery, neuroradiology, psychiatry, or another neuroscience-related field.
Selection criteria will include, but are not limited to, academic excellence, summer research and research during the academic years, peer-reviewed publications, and participating in local and national meetings.
Applications should be submitted as one PDF to the UTHealth Houston Neuroscience Research Center and must include a letter from the applicant describing research in neuroscience and future plans, a CV, a transcript, one letter of recommendation (can be sent separately) and optional copies of publications or abstracts. Files should be labeled as LASTNAME-FIRSTNAME_NRCMED2026.
Graduate Student Brain Awareness Outreach
The Graduate Student Brain Awareness Outreach Award is a $500 prize open to all UTHealth Houston students who have exhibited an exceptional interest and effort in brain awareness and neuroscience outreach activities. Applicants can email the UTHealth Houston Neuroscience Research Center for an application cover sheet. Applications should include:
- The completed application cover sheet
- An essay (not to exceed two pages, 12-point font) addressing involvement in brain awareness activities and commitment to neuroscience outreach at school, in the local community, and for the public at large
- A current CV
- A letter of recommendation from your advisor (can be sent separately)
- Optional letters of recommendation from individuals who can address outreach contribution
- Optional copies of any other documents to support the application
