Preventive Cardiology Forum set for Feb. 14
Physicians, nurses, dietitians, caregivers, and other health care professionals with an interest in cardiovascular disease prevention are invited to attend the 36th annual Preventive Cardiology Forum on Feb. 14.
The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in MSB 3.001. The Preventive Cardiology Forum is a collaboration between McGovern Medical School and the American Heart Association. Registration (external link) is open for the event.
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in the world. Health care providers continuously find themselves working tirelessly to ameliorate the effects of advanced heart disease in the inpatient setting, often after many years to decades of subclinical progression.
The forum is intended to help shift focus and to educate providers and patients on both beneficial lifestyle modifications as well as medical therapies that may help mitigate the development of cardiovascular disease.
The goal of the 36th Preventive Cardiology Forum is to enhance competencies in cardiovascular disease prevention and provide all participants with the core skills necessary to:
- Recognize the interplay of genetic factors and correctable risk factors in progression of atherosclerotic diseases
- Identify three evidence-based dietary patterns recommended for cardiovascular health
- Apply evidence-based guidelines to the care of the patient with obesity and associated co-morbidities
Presenters for the event include: Zarraf Arefeen, MD; L. Maximilian Buja, MD; Rudy Cabrera, MSN, RN; Francisco Fuentes, MD; Amier Haidar, MD; Heather Knight-Westover, RN; David LaFrance, MD; Catalin Loghin, MD; Bhanu Maturi, MD; Ashley Pyo, MPH, RD; Deepa Raghunathan, MD; Harrison Stuart, MD; and Otoniel Zelaya, MD.
