Monday named Chief Medical Officer of Specialty Care

LaTanya Love, MD, dean of McGovern Medical School and H. Wayne Hightower Distinguished Professor in the Medical Sciences, has announced that Kimberly Monday, MD, has been appointed Chief Medical Officer for Specialty Care (CMO-SC) for the McGovern Medical School Practice Plan, effective March 1, 2026.

Monday, who is board-certified in adult neurology, clinical neurophysiology, and sleep medicine, has served as interim CMO-SC since May 2025 and has performed exceptionally in that role. She brings outstanding leadership skills, deep clinical expertise, strong financial acumen, and proven problem-solving ability to this position. Throughout her career, Monday has demonstrated a collaborative leadership style and an unwavering commitment to organizational excellence.

Her prior leadership roles include serving as president of several physician-led organizations, including the Harris County Medical Society, the Houston Academy of Medicine, and the Texas Neurological Society. She has also led the Mischer Neuroscience Associates Neurology group and the Memorial Hermann Neuroscience service line. Monday currently serves as chair of the Texas Medical Association Board of Trustees and as vice chair of clinical operations for the Department of Neurology at McGovern Medical School. Prior to joining the department, she cofounded the Houston Neurological Institute.

As Chief Medical Officer for Specialty Care, Monday will work closely with leadership to foster a culture of specialty care excellence and continuous improvement, ensuring a highly supportive and attractive practice environment for our physicians and advanced practice providers. She will also help transform our specialty care delivery model by advancing an evidence-based approach to care, strengthening clinical integration, and enhancing care coordination across all specialty sites to deliver a more consistent and exceptional patient experience. In this role, Monday will partner with Tom Murphy, MD, Chief Medical Officer for Primary Care, to provide coordinated physician leadership across our practice plan.
