Cookies for Heroes

Girl Scouts from Troop 147992 pose for a group photo with adult leaders and a hospital staff member in a bright hospital atrium.

Members of the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council’s Troop 147992 delivered 1,440 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies to frontline health care workers at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital for the Cookies for Heroes program on April 10. During their visit, the Junior Girl Scouts had the opportunity to meet and give back to their heroes, explore Fondren Park, and learn what it takes to become a volunteer at the hospital.

Troop 147992 is co-led by Elizabeth Hillman, MD, MEd, associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. A Girl Scout alumna, Hillman now invests much of her free time leading multiple troops and training the next generation of neonatologists.

“Girl Scouts is a wonderful organization where we teach leadership, character, and community service to girls starting at a young age,” Hillman said. “I have the immense privilege of guiding these young women as they channel their boundless energy into helping make the world a better place. Watching these amazing individuals grow is the most rewarding aspect of being a troop leader, which also happens to be my favorite part of teaching residents and fellows.”
