Neurobiology and Anatomy names Galan 2026 outstanding student
The Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy has named fourth-year medical student Jacob Galan as the winner of the 2026 Outstanding Student in Neuroscience Award.
A native of San Antonio, Galan attended Trinity University. From there he joined the McGovern Medical School Class of 2026, where he graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha honors.
Galan will continue his training at Baylor College of Medicine as an internal medicine resident, with plans to pursue fellowship training.
The blend of dedicated faculty mentorship and hands-on anatomy training left a lasting impact on Galan’s time at McGovern Medical School. He notes that performing dissections and directly visualizing neuroanatomical structures were invaluable in solidifying concepts that could have otherwise felt abstract.
“This hands-on experience, combined with comprehensive in-house lectures, helped me build a more complete and integrated understanding of neuroscience from structure to clinical application,” Galan said. “I also supplemented my learning with Kaplan resources and benefited from asking questions and learning directly from faculty.”
