The Texas Medical Association elected Kimberly Monday, MD, professor in the Department of Neurology at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, as its 2026 president-elect during TexMed, the association’s annual conference.

Monday will serve one year in office before being installed as the association’s 162nd president in April 2027.

“I am honored to be selected by my peers and energized to lead the largest state medical society in the country,” Monday said.

In March, Monday was named chief medical officer for specialty care for the McGovern Medical School Practice Plan. Before joining McGovern Medical School, she was in private practice at the Houston Neurological Institute, which she co-founded.

“I will advocate fiercely for physicians in every practice setting and every region of our state,” Monday said.

Monday has held several Texas Medical Association (external link) leadership positions, including chair of the board of trustees. She also served on the Educational Scholarship and Loan Committee. In addition, Monday served on the Texas Medical Association councils on legislation and socioeconomics, as well as the Prior Authorization Task Force.

She is past president of the Harris County Medical Society, chaired the Harris Health System board of trustees, and serves on the Memorial Hermann Physician Network board of directors.
