Promecene named interim chair of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences

Pamela Promecene, MD, a highly respected clinician, educator, and academic leader, has been named interim chair of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, effective Sept. 22.

Promecene, an alumna and longtime faculty leader who currently serves as professor, Memorial Hermann Chair, and senior associate dean for Graduate Medical Education, will work closely with department and school leaders to ensure continuity across the department’s core missions of education, research, and patient care and support a smooth transition during the search for its next permanent chair.

“The strength of this department has always been rooted in its exceptional faculty, trainees, and staff, whose dedication advances patient care, education, research, and service every day,” said LaTanya Love, MD, dean of McGovern Medical School and H. Wayne Hightower Distinguished Professor in the Medical Sciences. “I am grateful for each member of the department and for the dedication they bring to their work every day. I am confident that Dr. Promecene’s experience, leadership, and deep commitment to the department will provide important continuity during this transition. She is well positioned to build on the department’s strong foundation and support its faculty, trainees, and staff.”

A national search for the department’s next permanent chair is underway.
