Local ABC affiliate, Channel 13 News, aired a segment about a recent Commonwealth Fund study that highlights racial and ethnic health disparities across the country. The study includes a scorecard for all 50 states, and the overall health system performance in Texas is ranked as one of the lowest in the nation. Keisha Ray, PhD, was asked to comment on the study findings. In the segment, Dr. Ray explained that people of color in the Houston area experience issues with access to and the affordability of health care. Ethnic disparities such as access to education, transportation, and proper housing become a domino effect. ABC 13 reported that Houston’s Black and Hispanic population has the highest percentage of those uninsured.
