On October 27, medical humanities concentration students Miguel Moreno, Hannah Coco, and Emma Stenz, along with the McGovern Center’s Margarita Ortiz, JD, MA, attended TOC TOC (in English, OCD) at MATCH Theatre. Ultimately dealing with the seriousness of OCD and living with OCD, this Spanish version of the original French play by Laurent Baffie, takes a comedic approach to difficult topics, such as the patient’s experience of illness, the perception of another’s illness, the multidimensional nature of illness, and even therapy and healing. After having the opportunity to talk with the cast and debriefing, the question among us remained: does art imitate reality in these representations of OCD, illness, and ultimately, the meaning of healing?
