ICFHPE PosterIn early November, Jessica Wise, MPH, PhD Candidate, and Shane Cunha, PhD, presented a poster about the Virtual Interprofessional Policy Simulation, an innovative health policy educational activity, at the 2022 International Conference on the Future of Health Professions Education at the University of Miami. The activity, referred to as VIPS, was collaboratively developed by the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) leadership team and Center for Interprofessional Collaboration. VIPS is offered every 6 weeks to interprofessional groups of students who work together in teams to address a healthcare policy issue and craft policy recommendations. The poster shared about the development and implementation of the activity, as well as preliminary assessment findings.

Wise is a graduate teaching associate with the McGovern Center and is completing a doctorate at the UTHealth School of Public Health. Cunha is associate faculty with the McGovern Center and associate professor at McGovern Medical School and the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Co-authors Angela Gomez, EdD, and Rebecca Lunstroth, JD, are also with the Center and QEP team. Lunstroth is the QEP director, and Gomez leads the initiative’s assessment activities. The QEP is critical to UTHealth Houston’s reaccreditation from SACSCOC and focuses on enhancing students’ learning about health policy. It is formally titled, “Healthcare Policy for Health Professionals,” abbreviated HP2.
