We are proud to share that our former postdoctoral fellow, Margarita Ortiz, JD, MA, has just published a thought-provoking article in the Journal of Bioethical Inquiry, titled “Parental Authority and the Weight of Assent: Navigating Moral Dilemmas in Adolescent End-of-Life Care.”
This interdisciplinary piece explores the complex ethical terrain surrounding adolescent end-of-life decision-making, particularly the tensions that arise when parental authority, adolescent assent, and healthcare provider obligations collide. Drawing on real-world challenges and the growing landscape of moral pluralism, the article examines how conflicts can lead to moral distress among healthcare professionals and provides strategies to navigate these ethically charged situations.
Published in a leading international journal dedicated to the ethical and legal dimensions of healthcare, this work contributes meaningfully to ongoing conversations about autonomy, communication, and the evolving dynamics of care at the end of life.
