Psychiatry Update Conference set for April 13
Registration is now open for the 2024 UTHealth Houston Psychiatry Update Conference, hosted by the Louis A. Faillace, MD, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, April 13 at the Institute of Molecular Medicine (1825 Pressler St.).
The symposium is designed for health care professionals who work with mental health issues, including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, psychologists, and therapists, as well as residents, fellows, medical students, and other trainees.
The 2024 conference is titled “Autism – From Childhood into Adulthood” and focuses on recent findings on the diagnosis and treatment of young children with autism and discusses factors affecting outcomes in youth with autism, including mental health, cultural differences, and availability of services. Additionally, the conference discusses the needs of adults with autism, reasons they may not get needed mental health and other health services, and possible ways to address these problems.
Keynote Speakers at the event are Rebecca Landa , PhD, CCC-SLP, vice president and executive director for the Center of Autism Services, Science, and Innovation at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, as well as Katherine Loveland, PhD, Landmark Charities Professor in Autism Research and Treatment, in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
Additional speakers from McGovern Medical School include Pauline Filipek, MD; Deborah Pearson, PhD; Taiwo Babatope, MD; and Antonio Pagan, PhD.
