Amber Luong, MD, PhD, Named Fellow of American College of Surgeons and Promoted to Associate Professor
Amber Luong, MD, PhD
Amber Luong, MD, PhD, FACS, has been selected for fellowship status in the American College of Surgeons (ACS). In recognition of her exemplary track record of clinical care, teaching and research, Dr. Luong was recently promoted from assistant professor to associate professor (with tenure) of otorhinolaryngology—head and neck surgery.
Actively involved in chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) research for the past 10 years, Dr. Luong received her first funded grant in the field during her residency in 2006. Since then, her lab has made significant advances in understanding the pathophysiology of CRS.
Dr. Luong received her MD/Ph.D. at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas through the National Institutes of Health-sponsored Medical Scientist Training Program. After completing her doctorate under Nobel laureates Drs. Michael Brown and Joseph Goldstein, she completed residency training at UT Southwestern and a fellowship in rhinology at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Luong is the director of research in the department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at UTHealth Medical School, and also directs a laboratory at the Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine for the Prevention of Human Diseases at UTHealth Medical School.
The American College of Surgeons admits to its fellowship only those surgeons whose professional activity is devoted to surgical practice and who agree without compromise to practice by the professional and ethical standards of the college. Surgeons who apply for fellowship are evaluated in their practice by their peers.
