Dr. Amber Luong Recognized for Clinical Excellence by UTHealth’s Women Faculty Forum

September 27, 2017

Amber Luong, MD, PhDAmber U. Luong, MD, PhD, associate professor of otorhinolaryngology and research director for the department, has been recognized with the 2017 Clinical Excellence Award by the Women Faculty Forum at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. A founding member of the forum, Dr. Luong helped shape the organization’s mission: advocacy on behalf of women faculty, opportunities for professional development and networking among women faculty, as well as with leaders in academic science and medicine within and outside the organization.

“I’m honored to be distinguished as a member of the women’s community at McGovern Medical School,” says Dr. Luong, who directs a laboratory at the UTHealth’s Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine for the Prevention of Human Diseases, where she holds a joint faculty appointment. “Our idea in creating the Women Faculty Forum was to highlight the achievements of women and focus on issues that are important to everyone, but may be more weighted on the minds of women, such as childcare.”

Thanks to the work of Dr. Luong and other members of the forum, UTHealth now provides child care and elder care for faculty and staff.
