Dr. Kunal Jain Named a 2022 Texas Super Doctors Rising Star

Kunal S. Jain, MDKunal S. Jain, MD, has been named by his peers among Super Doctors Rising Stars® in Texas. The results were published online at www.superdoctors.com, following an extensive independent nomination and research process. The Super Doctors Rising Stars list celebrates the best doctors in Texas who have been practicing 10 years or fewer.

“I am honored that other physicians would trust me with the care of their head and neck cancer patients,” says Dr. Jain, an assistant professor in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, who joined the department in 2015 and is director of head and neck surgical oncology at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, part of Harris Health System. “Our cancer team works hard to take care of each of our patients. I consider this award a recognition of the great care our entire team provides.”

Dr. Jain received his bachelor’s degree in economics at Cornell University, after spending his junior year at the London School of Economics and Political Science in the United Kingdom. After earning his medical degree at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, he completed his internship in general surgery and his residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. He joined the faculty at McGovern Medical School and medical staff of Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center after completing a fellowship in head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Dr. Jain is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He was named a Texas Super Doctors Rising Star in 2017, 2018, and 2019, and a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in 2021 and 2022.

He is a reviewer for multiple journals, has presented nationally and internationally, and has published articles in numerous peer-reviewed journals. His research interests include improving outcomes of head and neck oncologic and reconstructive procedures.

Dr. Jain treats patients with benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck, including throat cancer, oral cancer, larynx cancer, locally advanced skin cancer, salivary gland tumors, and thyroid/parathyroid disease, and performs reconstructive surgery. He spent a year in fellowship to learn robotic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, where the technology was pioneered, and performs minimally invasive transoral robotic surgery for throat cancer patients.
