Etan Weinstock, MD, Selected Faculty Member of the Year

November 23, 2014

Etan Weinstock, MD, FACS, has been selected Faculty Member of the Year in the department of Otorhinolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery by graduating residents of the department. The award recognizes Dr. Weinstock’s commitment to resident education and scholarly activity.

“I consider this recognition a great honor because it comes from our residents, who work with so many accomplished faculty,” he says. “I was surprised and moved to be acknowledged for the work I’ve done to help them advance their careers.”

As chief of the otolaryngology service at Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital, Dr. Weinstock has a unique opportunity to work with residents. “Because they spend an extended duration at LBJ, residents have the opportunity to treat the same patients through the entire continuum of care more frequently than in rotations at other hospitals. This offers us an opportunity to teach full circle, from evaluation and differential diagnosis, to operative techniques, to postsurgical follow-up.”

“Each year our faculty recognizes an outstanding resident, and our residents have the opportunity to recognize the faculty member they feel has made the greatest impact on their learning experience,” says Martin J. Citardi, MD, FACS, chief of otorhinolaryngology—head and neck surgery at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center and professor and chair of the department at UTHealth Medical School. “Dr. Weinstock has made an outstanding contribution to our mission of preparing the next generation of physicians.”

Dr. Weinstock is an assistant professor in the department, with clinical interests in thyroid and salivary gland cancers, skin cancer surgery, improving functional outcomes after surgical and nonsurgical treatments of head and neck cancers, minimally invasive treatments for head and neck cancers and organ preservation protocols for selected cancers.
