Ibrahim Alava, MD, Named a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons

Ibrahim Alava 200x250Ibrahim “Trey” Alava, MD, has been selected for fellowship status in the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
An assistant professor in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Texas John P. and Kathrine G. McGovern Medical School at Houston, Dr. Alava received his medical degree from the University of Miami in Miami, Florida. After medical school, he completed his internship and residency at the McGovern Medical School.
Dr. Alava’s clinical interests include innovations in the treatment of facial trauma surgery, endocrine head and neck surgery, skin cancers of the head and neck, and all aspects of general otolaryngology. His research interests revolve around patient-centered outcomes and healthcare disparities in the underserved. Currently, he has a research platform examining quality-of-life and patient-satisfaction outcomes in the head and neck cancer population at Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital of the Harris Health System, where he is chief of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery.
The ACS admits to its fellowship only those surgeons whose professional activity is devoted to surgical practice and who agree without compromise to practice by the professional and ethical standards of the college. Surgeons who apply for fellowship are evaluated in their practice by their peers.
