Ronda Alexander, MD, Invited to Speak at STEM Symposium

2009 1109 130 Ronda Alexander 200x250Ronda Alexander, MD, FACS, was an invited speaker at the Houston Community College Southwest STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) Symposium held last April on the college’s West Loop Campus. More than 300 students heard her speak on “Careers in Medicine: Making Your Voice Heard” and learned about the specialty of otolaryngology.
“We want to encourage students with an interest in science to learn more about pursuing a career in medicine at any level,” says Dr. Alexander, who is residency program director in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and director of the Texas Voice Performance Institute™ at the University of Texas John P. and Kathrine G. McGovern Medical School at Houston. “Medicine offers opportunities to learn about human disease in ways that promote health, to teach and mentor, and to pursue basic science or clinical research. It imparts ethical values and offers those with an interest an opportunity for a stable and independent life.”
