PHM Fellowship
The Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship Program is an ACGME-accredited, two-year training experience that produces graduates capable of providing exemplary clinical services. This program establishes leadership in research and training and advances the education of future learners with a specific interest in Pediatric Hospital Medicine.
In 2016, the UTHealth Houston McGovern Medical School established the Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) Division within the Department of Pediatrics. The Division is dedicated to providing the highest quality care for hospitalized children, contributing to the depth and breadth of knowledge in the PHM field and furthering the education of McGovern Medical School medical students, pediatrics residents and fellows. PHM faculty members are well versed in the complex care of hospitalized children, and their unique skill set has become an essential component for the safe, efficient, and excellent care provided to their patients. They serve as mentors to the next generation of pediatric clinicians.
In line with the goals of the core Pediatrics residency program, the fellowship is committed to producing graduates capable of providing exemplary clinical services, of establishing leadership in research and training, and continuing the education of future learners with a specific interest in Pediatric Hospital Medicine. Each fellow is assigned a formal mentor, aligned with the fellow’s individual interests within PHM. Fellowship program leaders and individual mentors work with each fellow to ensure the fellow participates in and leads scholarly activity, including quality-improvement initiatives and clinical research. The fellows, in turn, are expected to be leaders and mentors for pediatrics residents, honing their teaching skills, and building the basis for a true academic physician.
Training for first-year fellows begins in July and occurs primarily at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital (CMHH), a children’s hospital located within the flagship Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center (TMC). Fellows will also participate in rotations at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land, our community hospital site, and TMC-based Texas Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR).
