TIRR Memorial Hermann (The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research)

TIRR Memorial Hermann is a large, free-standing, inpatient rehabilitation located in the Texas Medical Center. For the 33rd consecutive year, TIRR is recognized as the best rehabilitation hospital in Texas and No. 4 in the nation, according to U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Rehabilitation Hospitals” in America.

TIRR Memorial Hermann was designated as a national rehabilitation innovation center as a result of legislation passed by Congress and signed into law by President Joe Biden on Jan. 5, 2023. The Dr. Joanne Smith Memorial Rehabilitation Innovation Centers Act of 2022 recognizes pioneering rehabilitation facilities which set the standard for research and patient care.

Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center

Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center is the academic affiliate of the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, and flagship hospital for the Memorial Hermann Hospital system. It is staffed by faculty and residents from the McGovern Medical School with over 1,000 inpatient beds.

It is home to Life Flight and the busiest Level I Trauma Center in the country. It is a certified stroke center, certified organ transplant center, with busy heart and vascular surgical services. PM&R provides consultation services across the hospital and leads a 16 bed inpatient rehabilitation unit.

Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital – Harris Health System

Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, located in Northeast Houston, is a part of Harris Health, Houston’s public and safety net hospital system. As Texas’ busiest Level III Trauma Center, it sees over 80,000 patients yearly, with 215 beds and robust outpatient clinic services. PM&R’s footprint here includes consultation services,  a joint PM&R-Orthopedic Surgery outpatient musculoskeletal clinic, and electrodiagnostic services.


The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center

University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is ranked as the nation’s best cancer hospital.  It is one of 53 comprehensive cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute. Last year, it served over 175,000 patients in 1.6 million outpatient visits and 757 inpatient beds, and completed over 20,000 surgeries. Research output is tremendous, with over 10,00 patients in 1,600 active clinical trials. Over 1,400 residents and fellows train there annually. Our department is proud to align with their PM&R faculty and cancer rehabilitation fellowship to provide the ultimate learning experience.
