Launching! To Adulthood Program
We offer our Launching! to Adulthood Group three times per year (spring, summer, and fall). The Launching! to Adulthood program helps neurodiverse young adults reach their full potential, while supporting their parents. The Launching! to Adulthood program for young adults (18-25 years old) with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and their parents is a 12 week therapy program based on evidence-based therapies (cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and motivational interviewing). After an initial combined (parents and young adults) group session, the program works separately with parents and young adults with ASD or ADHD to help them transition to adulthood using three distinct but vital components: 1) weekly (60-minutes) virtual group therapy for young adults, 2) weekly (60-minutes) virtual group therapy for parents, and 3) individual, “coaching” sessions (30-minutes, weekly for 10 weeks) with young adults.
At the end of each group therapy session, patients are given the opportunity to vote on which module they would like to discuss during the next group meeting. Because the Launching! to Adulthood program is a Quality Improvement project (QI Project No. 2022-1768), we are required to evaluate mental health and progress through the treatment every other week. This means we are required to evaluate the quality of life, mental health, and other brief measures of functioning in parents and young adults on a biweekly basis. Finally, in order to connect parents and young adults with more services in the community, we also partner with various community providers to provide free, optional, virtual weekend webinars for parents and young adults on a number of topics, including supported decision-making (Disability Rights of Texas).
