- What is the purpose of the registry?
The GHABPR aims to understand how bipolar disorder affects children over time, especially those diagnosed with bipolar disorder or who have a parent with the condition. Researchers study brain and behavior patterns to learn more about the disorder’s development.
- What does participation involve?
Participation includes:
- A virtual visit with the study coordinator (up to 4 hours, with a parent present)
- In-person cognitive assessment
- Sample collection (blood and saliva) (optional)
- MRI scan (optional)
Annual follow-up visits until the child turns 25
- How will this affect my child’s medical care?
Participation is completely voluntary and will not impact your child’s medical care in any way.
- Will my child be compensated?
Yes, each child enrolled in the study may receive compensation of up to $125 for their time.
- How is my child’s information protected?
As a data registry, GHABPR collects and stores information securely to study changes over time. All data is handled confidentially and in accordance with research ethics and privacy standards.
