Center for Interventional Psychiatry

Welcome to The Center for Interventional Psychiatry.

Interventional Psychiatry is an emerging field of psychiatry that utilizes procedural-based treatments to alleviate mental distress. Often when traditional pharmacologic and psychotherapeutic treatments have failed, interventional psychiatry comes in. Interventional approaches aim to identify and then correct dysfunctional brain circuits. Traditional therapy and neuromodulation techniques have included electroconvulsive therapy, ECT, but have now expanded to include more techniques such as tDCS, TMS, MST, VNS, DBS, ketamine, esketamine, and more recently psychedelics.

This exciting new center is in line with the future School of Behavioral Health Sciences Mission, and we will support the university’s mission of Patient care, Research, and Education in Interventional Psychiatry. This center encompasses both new UT Physicians Interventional Psychiatry Clinic, and the Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center Interventional Psychiatry Clinic. One center, two locations!

Our Patient Care Mission will consist of many outpatient and inpatient programs, and treatments. Some of which are treatment for Treatment-Resistant Depression, Catatonia, Treatment–Resistant Mania, Treatment–Resistant Schizophrenia, and Treatment–Resistant Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

We use evidence-based intervention treatments that have been proven to have positive results.
