When did you join UTHealth Houston? What brought you here?
I joined UTHealth on June 4, 1992, after my mother, who worked at the Dental Branch at the time, called me to tell me about an open position at the bookstore.
Tell us about your work history here.
I was first hired at the Dental Branch Bookstore June 4,1992, as a senior clerk. I then moved into processing invoices and purchase orders for the bookstore using TUFIMS (remember that?).
In 2001, I accepted a position with Information Technology as a client support analyst for the Helpdesk. This was my first introduction into the world of IT; I even remember my first caller, Dennie Clemons with Telecomm.
In September of 2006, after interviewing with Bassel Choucair, I accepted a position with MSIT, supporting departments like LRC, Conference Operations, Dermatology, CV Surgery, and many others. I really enjoyed the people of the Medical School and getting lost in the hallways while providing IT support.
In 2010, I accepted a position with General Administration as the manager of the UTHealth Helpdesk. Then in 2021, as a part of an IT reorganization, the Helpdesk was moved under Bassel Choucair and the newly formed IT User Experience and Support.
What are you most proud of accomplishing?
I am most proud of providing support to our university, helping our users navigate our technology, and getting them on their way so they can achieve their goals.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Providing solutions, either by assisting the user when they contact us,or with working with other IT teams to get their problem solved.
Why have you stayed?
This is a great place to work, period. The people at the University are genuine, and I can proudly say are my friends.
When you are not at work, how do you spend your time?
I serve as an assistant scout master in my son’s BSA Troop. I also volunteer at my church through the Knights of Columbus.
