Arts & Resilience welcomes back Laura Spector
The John P. McGovern, MD, Center for Humanities and Ethics welcomes back Laura Spector for its fall event of the Arts & Resilience program, Dec. 15.
Spector, a fellow of the New York Foundation for the Arts, will present an audiovisual exhibit on grief titled “(w)Hole: Grief. Apology. Healing” beginning at noon via zoom. To register for the exhibit, click here.
The Arts & Resilience performance will be the third for Spector. In July, Spector presented her workshop “Drawing for Surgeons (And the Rest of Us),” a course designed to practice capturing large and small details while strengthening hand-eye coordination. She also presented on multi-stable perception painting in Sept. 2021.
Spector, a performance and video artist, began creating artwork in 1994. In 1996, Spector began her acclaimed Museum Anatomy project, collaborating with museum curators in 16 countries to search for hidden, stolen, lost, and destroyed paintings to use as inspiration for new artwork.
Spector’s artwork has been exhibited both nationally and internationally. She is an individual grant recipient of the Houston Art Alliance and an Artist-in-Residency of the Joan Mitchell Foundation. In 2016, Spector was awarded Artist-in-Residence at the AtelierHaus Hilmsen in Germany.
