Sriwastava wins A.B. Baker Award

The American Academy of Neurology announced Shitiz Sriwastava, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Neurology, as the winner of the A.B. Baker Teacher Recognition Award.

The AB Baker Teacher Recognition Award is granted to excellent teachers in recognition of their contributions to improving neurology now and in the future. The award demonstrates respect and appreciation for neurologic teaching. Winners of the award received a plaque or recognition at the 2023 AAN Annual Meeting April 22-27 in Boston.

“I am deeply honored to have been nominated by my residents and students, and thrilled to receive this recognition from such a prestigious organization,” Sriwastava said. “This achievement further strengthens my commitment to making a positive impact by educating and inspiring future generations of neurologists and physicians.”

Sriwastava has a keen interested in identifying prognostic markers to predict the initiation and progression of multiple sclerosis, especially early neurogenerative changes and also DTI studies in MS. His clinical, basic, and translational studies in neuroimmunologic diseases have resulted in 48 peer-reviewed papers and reports, and over 50 published abstracts from national and international meetings.

Sriwastava received his medical degree from Manipal College of Medical Sciences in Pokhara, Nepal, before completing a residency in neurology and a fellowship in neuroimmunology at Wayne State University in Detroit.

The A.B. Baker Award is named in honor of A.B. Baker, MD, FAAN, the inaugural president of the American Academy of Neurology. The Academy is celebrating its 75th anniversary of service to neurology in 2023.
