McGovern Medical School continues to add to its training programs for medical school graduates, with a number of new graduate medical education programs approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and the Texas Medical Board.

The Medical School added a residency program in Plastic Surgery – Integrated, accepting its first trainees in July 2022. Also in July 2022, newly approved fellowships in Neuroendovascular Surgery and Family Medicine Obstetrics began accepting trainees.

New fellowships in Pediatric Hospital Medicine, Medical Biochemical Genetics, Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery, Breast Imaging, and Clinical Informatics all welcomed their first trainees this past July.

Advanced Interventional Endoscopy, Lung Transplant, Pain Medicine, and Pediatric Cerebrovascular Neurology are all recently approved fellowships that have not yet accepted trainees.

“Adding these training programs allows us to prepare physicians for specialization and subspecialization in much-needed fields,” said Pamela Promecene-Cook, MD, associate dean for Graduate Medical Education.
