The Department of Emergency Medicine team partners with the Houston Marathon Committee to provide its ECMO Service for nearly 25,000 runners at the Chevron Houston Marathon/Aramco Half-Marathon. Created in 2019 as a collaboration with the Department of Emergency Medicine, the Houston Fire Department, and Memorial Hermann Heart and Vascular Institute, the ECMO program aims to help cardiac arrest patients in prehospital settings when standard therapies fail. Essential to the success of the ECMO program is the ECMO-1 vehicle, which was generously donated by the Wyatt Ranches.
