Wang wins SMSNA Distinguished Service Award

The Sexual Medicine Society of North America (SMSNA) presented Run Wang, MD, FACS, professor and Cecil M. Crigler, MD, Chair in Urology, with the Distinguished Service Award at the 24th Annual Meeting of the society in November.

“I am truly honored and grateful to the SMSNA for presenting me with the Outstanding Service Award,” Wang said. “This recognition motivates me to continue making a positive impact in the field of sexual medicine.”

Established in 2006, the SMSNA Distinguished Service Award is awarded to those within the society who have made outstanding contributions and shown great dedication to the field of sexual medicine, in particular to the growth and development of the SMSNA.

The Distinguished Service Award recognizes Wang’s noteworthy contributions to the field of sexual medicine and his resolute dedication to advancing knowledge and care in this specialized area. The acknowledgement affirms his expertise and serves as a wellspring of inspiration for up-and-coming professionals in the field.

Dr. Run Wang receives the SMSNA Distinguished Service AwardWang, also a clinical professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, received his medical degree in 1983 at Southeast University Medical College in Nanjing, China, before completing a residency there in 1986. He joined the Department of Surgery at McGovern Medical School as an associate professor in 2006.

Wang has previously served as president of the SMSAN, and in November 2022, he was selected as president-elect for the International Society for Sexual Medicine during the World Meeting for Sexual Medicine. His 2-year presidential term will run from 2024-26.

Wang has published extensively in the field of urology, andrology, men’s health, and sexual medicine and has served as co-editor, guest editor, deputy editor, associate editor, and editorial member for many medical journals. He was a panelist for WHO/ISSM sponsored International Consultations on Sexual Medicine in 2009 and 2015. Wang also holds honorary, concurrent, and visiting professorships in numerous national and international universities.

Established in 1994, the SMSNA is an association of multidisciplinary healthcare professionals and scientists interested in advancing sexual medicine in North America. The society has more than 1,400 members across the continent. The SMSNA aims to promote the highest standards of care in sexual medicine and to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and the latest research in the field of sexual medicine.
