Applications open for 2024 Pruessner Scholarship
The Harris County Academy of Family Physicians is accepting applications for the Harold T. Pruessner, MD, Medical Student Scholarship. The deadline to apply is May 31.
Applicants must be third-year medical students in good standing and, have completed their family medicine rotation, have a strong interest in practicing family medicine as their specialty; and although not a requirement, special consideration may be given to students considering practicing in medically underserved areas.
Interviews with a scholarship committee member can be arranged by contacting Maelene Phillips, assistant to scholarship committee chair Michael Altman, MD, at 713-500-7604 or at [email protected]. After contact, students will be advised on the process of submitting transcripts and a letter of recommendation from the Office of Student Affairs. In addition, a professional photo, curriculum vitae, a less than one-page personal statement, and a note or letter of recommendation from an academic professor and/or physicians in private practice (preferably in Family Medicine) should also be submitted.
Scholarship winners will be notified at the end of July, and recipients will be recognized at the Harris County Academy of Family Physicians meeting in September. Scholarship funds are contingent on matching into a Family Medicine residency program.
The Harris County Academy of Family Physicians established the scholarship in honor of Harold T. Pruessner in 1995 through the TAFP foundation.
