8th MASSIN Congress brings global neurosurgery leaders to Houston
The 8th Madjid Samii Society of International Neurosurgery (MASSIN) Congress, held in October, welcomed more than 200 attendees from around the world to the Texas Medical Center, marking a pivotal gathering of neurosurgery professionals.
Led by this year’s president, Jacques Morcos, MD, professor and John P. and Kathrine G. McGovern Distinguished Chair of the Vivian L. Smith Department of Neurosurgery, the congress brought together neurosurgeons and researchers for three full days and two half days of intensive scientific programming.
The event, which featured internationally renowned faculty, covered a wide spectrum of neurosurgical subspecialties and included keynote addresses from luminaries such as Rex Marco, MD, professor of orthopedic surgery and Spine Fellowship program director, and Madjid Samii, MD, the society’s namesake and a pioneer in the field.
For the first time in its history, MASSIN partnered with the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, setting the stage for MASSIN’s inaugural session on the same day at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The remainder of the congress took place at the Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine for the Prevention of Human Diseases at UTHealth Houston.
Attendees were treated to a series of plenary talks, panel discussions, and poster presentations showcasing groundbreaking research and clinical advancements. Topics ranged from minimally invasive surgical techniques to complex cranial procedures, reflecting the comprehensive nature of the field.
MASSIN was established in 2002 by former trainees and colleagues of Samii and fosters the growth and exchange of knowledge within the neurosurgical community.
