Kevin Morano, PhD, senior vice president of Academic and Faculty Affairs and senior associate dean for Faculty Affairs, announced Kristi Tebo, MD, as the inaugural assistant dean of Global Health for McGovern Medical School, effective Dec. 1, 2024.

A graduate of Baylor College of Medicine, Tebo joined the McGovern faculty in 2021. She is the assistant vice president of Global Health Initiatives at UTHealth Houston and assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics. She completed residency at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine.

“Global health has been centralized at the institution over the last few years,” Morano said. “However, much of this activity happens at McGovern Medical School, so it’s appropriate to have our central leader with a position of authority here to help coordinate people and programs.”

Morano added that Tebo has shown great effectiveness in managing the university’s global health mission and logistics.

Tebo’s clinical interests include global health, including the care of immigrants and refugees, and improving childhood health through lifestyle modifications.

“I am certain Dr. Tebo will continue to build global health as a component of our overall mission of patient care – applying what we do for Texas on the global scale,” Morano said.
