Medical School research retreat scheduled for March 4

Registration is open for the annual McGovern Medical School Research Retreat, sponsored by the Research Committee, where faculty, graduate students, and fellows can learn more about research conducted on campus and interact with their peers.
The event will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., in the Sarofim Research Building at the Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine (1825 Pressler St.).
The event will include two breakthrough discovery symposia designed to showcase the talent of junior and senior faculty whose work is worthy of recognition for its innovation and significance. Additionally, there will be a Graduate Student Education Committee sponsored poster competition and a postdoctoral symposium designed to highlight the work of graduate and post-graduate trainees.
Carolyn Bertozzi, PhD, 2022 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry will deliver the keynote address and Ernst Knobil Distinguished Lecture on “Therapeutic opportunities in glycoscience.” Bertozzi is also Baker Family Director of Stanford Chemistry, Engineering, and Medicine for Human Health; Anne T. and Robert M. Bass Professor in the School of Humanities and Sciences; and professor of Chemical and Systems Biology and of Radiology at Stanford University.
Presenters for the Breakthrough Discovery Symposia will be Wen Li, PhD; Jeff Temple, PhD; Pamela Wenzel, PhD; Guillermo Aquino Miranda, PhD; Elham Rategari, PhD; Victor Banerjee, PhD; Alexis Bavencoffe, PhD; Juneyoung Lee, PhD; and Diana Proctor, PhD.
The Graduate Student Education Committee Poster Competition offers students a public forum to present their findings and receive valuable feedback on their research. Students also have the opportunity to see how their work compares to that of their peers in a competitive setting. Each year, awards are given for projects that demonstrate outstanding and innovative research that has the potential to contribute to the advancement of medical science and health care.
