ACGME accredits Allergy and Immunology Fellowship

The Department of Internal Medicine has received accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for its Allergy and Immunology Fellowship – only the second such fellowship program in Houston.
The fellowship received ACGME accreditation last month for a maximum of four fellows. The program will welcome its first two fellows July 1.
“Special thanks to Dr. Ekta Perera, the program director, for all of her efforts toward this achievement,” said David McPherson, MD, chair of the Department of Internal Medicine, James T. and Nancy B. Willerson Chair, Francine J. and Frederick M. Pevow, MD Chair of Internal Medicine, and vice president for Clinical and Translational Sciences.
The fellowship will provide hands-on clinical experience, translational research experience, and didactics and plans to grow its breadth and scope in the coming years.
“This achievement was made possible with the support of McGovern Medical School, whose commitment to excellence in education and research has been instrumental in the development of this program,” said Perera, program director of the Allergy and Immunology Fellowship. “With a comprehensive curriculum, hands-on experience, and dedicated mentorship, our fellowship program is designed to develop the next generation of leaders in clinical care, research, and education. We look forward to supporting the growth of our fellows through their training and watching them make meaningful contributions to the field of allergy and immunology in the future.”
The addition of this ACGME fellowship is part of the larger growth strategy of the Division of Allergy and Immunology, which now includes five faculty members.
