Moreno to present Withers Lecture July 2

Gerardo Moreno, MD, MSHS, professor and chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, will present the Department of Family and Community Medicine’s 2025 Henry W. Withers Lectureship in Family Medicine, July 2.
Moreno will present on “Family Medicine Patient Oriented Care and Outcomes: A view from Los Angeles,” from 1-2 p.m. in MSB 2.135 and online via Zoom. The Zoom Meeting Number is 922 2551 0439 and the password is 124017.
Moreno is a clinician investigator, and his current research focuses on studying effective healthcare delivery in communities for uninsured and underinsured populations and older adults. He is a past recipient of a Paul B. Beeson Career Development Award in Aging (K23) from the National Institute on Aging (NIA).
He serves as a senior advisor and previously co-directed the Community Liaison Core of the NIH/NIA-funded UCLA Resource Center for Minority Aging Research/Center for Health Improvement for Minority Elders. He is a former associate editor for the Annals of Family Medicine and has published studies that have increased our understanding of the primary care physician workforce, healthcare disparities and medical education.
His contributions extend across family medicine, primary care, community health, and medical education. In addition to his research and leadership roles, Moreno maintains a continuity clinic and actively trains residents and medical students. As executive director of UCLA PRIME-LA, Moreno oversees a program of approximately 100 medical students, preparing them to become leaders for California Communities.
Moreno was elected to the prestigious National Academy of Medicine in 2023, a distinction that is among the highest honors in the fields of medicine and health. He serves on the board of directors for the Annals of Family Medicine, and served as the board chair for the American Board of Family Medicine from 2023-24 and was a standing member of the NIGH Standing Review Committee study section for clinical aging research.
Moreno received his medical degree from UCLA, completed a residency at the University of California, San Francisco, and received a master of science in health services at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. Moreno completed fellowship training in the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program.
