Vasquez to lead NIH study section

Valeria Vasquez, PhD, associate professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, recently was appointed chair of the Biochemistry and Biophysics of Membranes Study Section, Biological Chemistry and Macromolecular Biophysics Integrated Review Group, Center for Scientific Review.
Vasquez was appointed on behalf of Jayanta Bhattacharya, MD, PhD, director, National Institutes of Health, as a result of her demonstrated competence and achievement in her scientific discipline as evidenced by the quality of her research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals, and other significant scientific activities, achievements, and honors.
Vasquez’s NIH study section appointment is in immediate effect, with a term ending in June 2027.
Vasquez earned her doctorate in molecular physiology and biological physics from the University of Virginia and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University. Her research interests include the modulation of mechanosensitive ion channels by dietary fatty acids.
Membership on an Integrated Review Group represents a unique opportunity to contribute to the national biomedical research effort. IRGs review applications submitted to NIH, make recommendations on the applications to the appropriate NIH national advisory council or board, and survey the status of research in their fields of science.
