Emergency medicine hosts future STEM leaders

The Department of Emergency Medicine hosted junior high students participating in the National Creating Exciting Futures in STEM Challenge for an immersive introduction to emergency response and lifesaving skills.

The event introduced students to several core concepts in emergency medicine through interactive stations designed to build confidence, critical thinking, and practical skills. Participants learned the fundamental of high-quality CPR, proper automated external defibrillator (AED) use, tourniquet application, and lower extremity splinting using realistic, life-sized simulation manikins.

Throughout the session, students rotated through hands-on exercises that allowed them to experience how healthcare professionals assess and respond to emergencies.

The workshop was created by the Emergency Medicine Simulation Team and made possible thanks to generous donations from Wyatt Ranches.
